About Us

Freedom City Gardens, LLC (FCG) is a modern urban micro-farm located in Athens, GA. We are honored to be a part of the new and innovative urban agriculture movement that features fresh grown, USDA Naturally Certified, in-town produced grown using sustainable methods.

Freedom City Gardens has a goal of becoming completely organic by 2023. In fact, we are pursuing Regenerative Organic Farming Certification.

Regenerative agriculture restores the ecosystem it is grown in. The key takeaway: Regenerative Agriculture is defined by the creation of beneficial ecological outcomes. Unlike regenerative agriculture, organic agriculture is not defined by its ecological outcomes.

As a part of this movement, FCG's mission and vision includes a dedication to creating an environmentally, economically, socially sustainable local micro-farming systems  located in the community and in service to the community. FCG is currently incorporating an apiary on its farm and building two more high tunnels to allow year-round cultivation.

If you see this seal displayed at a farmers market, farmstand, or your local farm, it means that the farm’s practices are similar to those of a certified organic farm. The differences in the standards are minor, the main difference is in how those requirements are verified.

Freedom City Gardens (FCG) makes a conscious effort to grow and produce only the most nutritionally dense vegetables with the most impressive nutrient profile. These vegetables include spinach, broccolini, kale, swiss chard, Asian greens, collard greens, and garlic. Root vegetables that are regularly grown and exceptionally high in fiber and anti-inflammatories include beet varieties, turnips, onions, and radishes. FCG is also incorporating an apiary on its farm and building one additional high tunnels to allow year-round cultivation.

Freedom City Gardens uses sustainable farming methods that include rotating crops, incorporating biodiversity, eliminating tillage (no-till method), planting cover crops while valuing and incorporating less intensively cultivated areas in its practice. FCG  continually reevaluates its growth plan to include the most nutritionally dense crops. Additionally, FCG incorporates less intensively cultivated areas in its practice.
